The Sweet Story
Lady Di’s Bakery isn’t just a business—it’s a testament to passion, perseverance, and the power of my mother’s love.
It all started in 1983 when Diane Devroe, lovingly known as Lady Di, was preparing for my 2nd birthday. Disappointed by the taste and quality of store-bought cakes, she set out on a journey to create something better. With sheer determination and self-taught skills, she mastered the art of cake decorating. Soon, her cakes became local favorites, creating a buzz in the community.
Though baking was her first love, Lady Di took an unexpected detour and opened a Gourmet Popcorn Shop. But her cakes wouldn’t stay in the background for long. What started as small cake slices next to the popcorn quickly became the real star—customers couldn’t get enough! The demand was undeniable, and soon, neighboring businesses started requesting her cakes for their own shelves.
In 1998, my mother took a bold leap of faith and opened Lady Di’s Bakery with just $2.40 left in her pocket, no safety net, and three young children—myself, my brother Dimitrious, and my sister Kierra—by her side. Fueled by faith, grit and an unwavering commitment to quality, the bakery flourished.
What started with just three cake flavors soon expanded to a menu featuring over 24 signature flavors. But one item became an absolute legend: Lady Di’s Butter & Peanut Butter Cookies. Inspired by classic lunchroom cookies, these soft, melt-in-your-mouth treats have become the brand’s most iconic product.

Sales and marketing are my primary focus, ensuring that our products continue to reach new customers and retail partners across Chicago and beyond.
